Secure Sockets Layer Certificates

If you are gathering sensitive information online, from bank details to login information, it is essential that you keep your web site and your users secure. SSL certificates encrypt the information being sent from your browser to the web server using either 128 bit or 256 bit encryption.

How does it work?

Well basically the packets being sent from your machine to the web server can only be opened and viewed but the person who has the key. The key is an integer that is 128 bits in size which is pretty big. Imagine trying to guess a number that was between 0 and 1 Λ 38 (100000000000000000000000000000000000000). On average, it would take a machine doing 1 trillion keys a second around 2 million million million (2 followed by 18 zeroes) years to guess the key.

Types of certificate

There are three different types of certificate available to our customers, each with the maximum amount of encryption allowed. Don't know if you need one? Don't worry we will let you know if one is required and also which type you require. Generally speaking the lowest cost option is all that is required, however upgrading can offer extra security and also more official types of certificate.
