Voice Over IP - The Basics

Voip

Voice over IP, or VOIP for short, basically is a means of conversing with others all over the world via the internet. IP stands for internet protocol which is the addressing systems used to control the delivery of information or data from one point to another on the internet.

Voice over IP - the pros

The biggest selling point of this service is the cost. Its free. To an extent. You will of course need to have a broadband connection which costs money and all the equipment such as a headset, microphone and optional web cam. Imagine the savings though if you are making international calls on a regular basis.

Voice over IP - the cons

Cons you say. How can there be? Its FREE! Well you can't dial an ordinary number is the first, you need to converse computer to computer so the other person needs the same kit and same software and they need to be online too.

Voice over IP - Where do i get one!!!

Well several services are available with the likes of Google and Microsoft and a big one that is well known is Skype. You will also need broadband which is available from us at only £26.90p + VAT so get in touch.

Viral Marketing

Viral Marketing

Everyday of the week most people with an email address will receive some form of funny picture or clip from a friend. Like me, they might then forward this on themselves and so on and so forth friend after friend, spreading the humour like some kind of virus.

Now after reading the little introduction you can see what i mean by viral marketing. This type of marketing began when certain clips of un-released adverts for real products were deemed too risque for television and then leaked on the internet. An example of which is the Ford KA evil twin advert which showed the car eating a cat. The original email spread and reached a worldwide audience within weeks, something you would pay millions for on television.

The possibilities of this form of internet marketing are so large some firms concentrate solely on it. Got any ideas? Get in touch and we can help.

Employee Profile

Charles 'Van' Hooren - AKA the Hulk or the Sugar Puff Monster

Charlie has been with MRS for over 4 years and is the senior web designer. He has been in the design field for over 10 years and brings a lot of knowledge and experience to the team.

He has worked on creating 3-Dimensional models of Oil Rigs using Auto-Cad and 3d Studio max and is an expert in usable and accessible web design principles.

Charlie is best known for eating lots of cereal, taking several 'cereal breaks' during the day to refill his seemingly bottomless pit. These are usually followed by some fruit or vegetable that is so healthy nobody knows what it is.

His main hobby though is competing in triathlons, no mean feat i am assured. Triathlon has 3 events, hence the tri bit and that's as much as i know but i do know it takes a lot of training and effort and i am informed his major goal is to compete in an Iron Man (2.5 mile swim, 120 mile bike ride and full length marathon in a day!).
